I asked AI to write for me, as me

I asked AI to write for me, as me

I love using AI. I really do. But only because I'm already a writer, so I know how to make the most of what it gives me.

Here's what I realised today, while sitting on the ballroom floor at the back of an AI conference (uncomfy chairs).

If you don't have someone doing regular graphic design for you, design-by-AI is amazing. Because it adds skills you don't currently have. But if you do, it's meh.

If you don't have an in-house writer or content creator, copy-by-AI will change your life, because: capability you don't currently have. But if you do, it's weak.

Faster, yes. Less sensitive to criticism, yes. Willing to try 1000 options, yes. But still meh and weak compared to the so-flawed-it's-extraordinary human mind.

Today I asked ChatGPT to write as me. Because I've had so much stuff published online over the last 18 years, I figured the platform would find a couple of exemplars to steal from, even though I'm not famous.

Wanna see what happened?

I said, "Can you please write a social media post in the style of Tiffany Markman?"

Certainly. Here's a short, engaging social media post that aligns with Tiffany Markman's style.

At this point, I was optimistic. They know me! Short? Engaging? Sounds good.

?? Embrace the Art of Words ???

Yikes. Emojis?!?

In a world filled with emojis and character limits, let's not forget the beauty of language. Words are the brushes to paint the canvas of our thoughts. ?????

Notwithstanding the obvious contradiction of using emojis while gently vilifying emojis, what the absolute hell is that sentence? I feel queasy.

Today, take a moment to savor a well-crafted sentence, an eloquent phrase, or a clever turn of phrase. ????

I'd love to. But you've not given me any.

Remember, it's not just about what you say, but how you say it. Let your words be a reflection of your unique voice! ?????

I couldn't agree more. Only, I can't get past the word 'unique' and the unnecessary exclamation mark. Also: MORE FREAKING EMOJIS. Am I 12?

I love using AI.

But, for the moment, only the real Tiffany Markman should please stand up.

I am far less offended by emojis than I am by the constant use of acronyms and initialisms. The purpose of communication is to ensure comprehension. Please do not get me started on malapropisms and verbosity. ?? Am I just old?

I have people asking me why I don't use AI to write - I'll point them to this article. Never change, Tiffany Markman!

I do. And you can 'borrow' little pieces of it to help you to flesh out yours, if you like.
