I am your heavy lift!?
I went through one of the hardest events I've ever had to go through last week as I checked in my oldest daughter, my 18-year-old baby into her first year at Duquesne University in Pennsylvania. I've been preparing for it for the last two years and I thought I had turned a corner on this bittersweet event, not wallowing in sadness for myself but instead being proud and so happy for her well-deserved new chapter in life. I was wrong. It has been one of the most difficult changes in my life and it hit me very hard on the day of our last hug and my return trip home on the plane by myself from PIT to TPA last Thursday!
However, I found myself saying to her and I texted her this statement:
I am your heavy lift!
As you are reading this, you might be thinking, this newsletter is all about my daughter and myself with this experience last week, but it isn't.
The idea of the “heavy lift” or lifter is about how we look at ourselves as a book publisher and what we say to our authors about the heavy lifting involved in this process of writing and publishing a book.
First, we let our clients know that there will be a period of time in their book publishing timeline, when it is time for their heavy lift. This is when they are downloading their authentic and truthful, years of experience content. This time period requires them to dig in, to recall times in their journey that may be difficult or chaotic, which may bring up memories that they may have thought they had reconciled and didn’t. Their heavy lift is to provide impactful content for their books in working with our editors as they learn the art of writing freely and being vulnerable to express their message.?

After our author’s heavy lift in this stage in the publishing journey, we most commonly tell them this will begin their “downhill road of fun”. Meaning it is now our book publishing team’s time to bring all the other elements of publishing to fruition for their book release. The fun as the author gets to see all their hard work come together.
This is when the NOW Publishing team has the heavy lift. This effort, if you ask others who have published a book, has many elements to it, many moving parts. ?All authors, either published or self-published, normally have a very good idea of the huge effort involved at this point.
This heavy lift is what our clients mostly pay us for, our professional fees. And as the publishing industry changes nearly monthly, so does this effort for our team.
So, as we go to work today, this week and as I texted my first-year, college freshman daughter just this morning, I am, “we are”, your heavy lift!
Happy Writing!

1 年I absolutely love this! I have had a lot on my mind lately, and the universe has truly been telling me a lot lately. The creativity has come back and I have begun writing poetry again. I picked up a book, with a heart on it and the first page a line written “you can be your own Aaron” so I bought it. I shared a collection of poems with someone that I am excited to get reviews back on. I am hoping this post is the final push I need to get enough put together to finally get enough material together to have a nice book of poems to share with the world. Thank you for this, it was needed!!!!

1 年Understand the mom issue (was there a few years ago), and you described the "heavy lift" so well that it will stay prominently in mind! Take care!
