Announcement: I Am Writing a Book!

I am writing a book!!

I am very excited to announce that I am writing a non-fiction book about the experiences of Black women and minorities in the workplace and the importance of inclusive leadership! My book was recently approved for January 2023 publication with New Degree Press.

My doctoral dissertation on women in leadership is unavailable to the public because I wanted to turn it into a book. Writing a book about women's experiences in the workplace has been on my bucket list for years! It was not until I experienced discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and ultimately termination in my career at the University of Miami, Miami Herbert Business School, that I took the leap to write a book and share my own journey in Higher Education along with other Black women experiences in the workplace. Unfortunately, women and especially Black women, still face numerous challenges in their careers, regardless of preparation, credentials and performance.

The past year has been very challenging for me, as I witnessed how the exclusion of minorities continues to be ingrained in some corporate cultures and even…. in academia, an industry that has promoted and leveraged Critical Race Theory, Diversity Equity & Inclusion, PRIDE and Black Lives Matter among other social justice movements for their own benefit enormously, pushing diversity and inclusion ideologies into mainstream society. Black women are one of the most educated groups in society and most likely the single demographic with the highest per capita debt burden owed to higher education institutions. However, they are the least represented in leadership positions, and in academia, very few of them achieve tenure or leadership status, as an old guard of entrenched, disconnected elitist leaders, supposed progressives in academia, hold them back and in many cases actively block their career trajectory with prejudice.?

Unfortunately, we still live in a system that discriminates against minorities and? protects those in power who perpetuate social inequalities, and this needs to change.? We need leaders who truly care about fostering equity and inclusion, and not only when it benefits them with performative allyship efforts. We need leaders to take responsibility for equity and social justice during their hiring, compensation and promotion initiatives. It is long overdue.?

My book, Leadership is a Responsibility, is a reflection on the intersection of lived experiences of Black women in the workplace, women in leadership, and responsible, conscious and inclusive leadership.?
