I am what I AM - Letting Go of Ego For Success

In all of my affirmations, I use the phrasing "I am {positive word), that I am {action word}. This helps remind me that I am the comma is the most important part of who I am as a business owner. It is the juxtaposition of "I" and "I am." The word “ego” comes from the Latin term for “I.” At its most basic, it refers to the self or the individual. Ego signifies the part of us that clings to identity, pride, and self-importance, often causing us to focus on external validation, competition, and control.

Interestingly, the Greek word for ego is also ?γ? (egō), which similarly translates to “I.” The Greeks used "egō" to explore human consciousness, personal identity, and how these concepts shape our perceptions of reality. The ego is often seen as a source of division—separating us from a deeper sense of connection to others and the divine.

As humans, we identify with our ego, believing it to be our true self. However, the Bible calls us to look beyond this limited view of "I" and discover a more profound truth—the great “I AM.” In John 8:58, Jesus declares, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.” This echoes God’s proclamation in Exodus 3:14: “I AM WHO I AM.”

These statements reveal a deeper spiritual reality. The "I AM" transcends the ego's attachment to identity, pride, and validation. It points to a sense of self that is eternal, unshakable, and fully complete. By aligning with this understanding of "I AM," or as others might consider it oneness, we can let go of the ego’s need for control and validation, opening ourselves to peace, purpose, and a more fulfilling business and life.

I AM: The True Self Beyond Ego??

The phrase “I AM” represents the ultimate expression of self-identity—one that is beyond time, beyond ego, and the limitations of the human mind. This is the self that doesn’t need external validation, achievement, or recognition. By embracing "I AM," or oneness we can release the ego’s grip on our decisions, fears, and comparisons. We no longer need to strive or compete to prove our worth because our true identity is already rooted in something much greater.

Ego in Business

Imagine lately, you’ve been feeling overwhelmed. You constantly compare your business to others in your industry, wondering why they seem to be growing faster or getting more attention. The desire to “keep up” is eating away at your peace of mind.

One day, a key decision comes up about expanding the business. Your ego tells you to push forward aggressively, even though you and your team are already stretched thin. It’s all about proving that you can be as successful as others. But deep down, you know that this drive isn’t coming from a place of purpose. Instead, it’s coming from fear—the fear of falling behind, of not being good enough. The need for external validation creates decisions that don’t align with your long-term goals and reason for starting your business. You’re focusing on what you lack rather than trusting in your own unique path.

Overcoming Ego: Shifting to “I AM”

With three simple and quick strategies, you can overcome the ego and this will make a massive impact on your decision-making, your mindset, and your ability to connect with others who can help you in your business.

  1. Release Control through Awareness: Begin by recognizing when the ego is at play. Maybe in moments of comparison and fear of missing out. But simply noticing these thoughts can help you step back and make more intentional decisions. With this intention, it allows the awareness to be a reminder to release control. Let go of the need to control every outcome and embrace trust in the process.
  2. Embrace Gratitude: Gratitude shifts your focus from what you lack to what you have. For business owners struggling with decisions, this might mean appreciating the small wins—happy clients, loyal employees, or the progress you’ve made so far. Gratitude aligns with the truth of “I AM,” reminding us that we are enough as we are.
  3. Affirm Your True Self: In the face of ego-driven fears, daily affirmations can remind you of your true power. The affirmations are not intended as a “fake it until you” make it. These affirmations should represent who you really are when you shed the ego. As a business owner, you might affirm, “I trust my unique path” or “I am capable and worthy of success.” Ultimately the goal is to let go of the need for external validation.

If you’re a business owner feeling the weight of comparison, control, or fear, now is the time to step back and reflect. How often does your ego keep you stuck in these patterns? What limiting beliefs are holding you back from leading with confidence and purpose?

At Our Success Group, we’ve developed a program designed to help you release those limiting beliefs and step into your full potential. I encourage you to check out OSG.link/unlock and begin your journey toward letting go of the ego and unlocking your true power.
