I am trying to do my part...why aren't you?

This one may bite a bit and I am ok with that.
I hopped on an airplane yesterday for my first business trip in more than 8 months. I didn’t have too but I decided to take this business trip for 3 reasons:
- We are hosting a virtual National Sales Meeting and I wanted to do as much as I could to give our team the best possible meeting given the circumstances, so I decided to present from the “studio” that was built for this event versus staying home and presenting from my office.
- Just like I thought it was a good idea for my kids to get back into the classroom, I thought it would be good for me to get back on the horse again and fly somewhere.
- I know that the travel industry is taking a huge hit; thousands of dollars of loss from just me alone so I thought that even a short trip like this one can help the industry begin to recover.
I wore my mask just like I was supposed to. I wore it out of respect for the safety of others and yet I saw so many people not doing their part. I saw some people who often times would remove their mask while several others were improperly wearing their mask below their nose.
Please don’t tell me this is a “freedom” or a “political” thing. It’s not, it is a selfish thing. I don’t hear anyone protesting about wearing a seatbelt because everyone knows that seatbelts save lives. Don’t think masks work? Why have doctors worn them for decades? If they were operating on you, would you be ok if they decided that their freedom was more important than your health?
I get it, outside of Michael Meyers from Halloween, nobody likes to wear a mask but out of respect for all the workers and travelers around you…just wear your mask!

4 年Well said Tom. The unabated spread of Covid will likely continue through 2021 so we can all do our part to minimize transmission while hopefully not going into another lockdown.
