I am in support ,do i have the luxury of improving the OSNR? I am in presales/planning how can i do it?
In this article let us understand irrespective of the department we are working in how can we work on improving the OSNR , so let us revisit the formula of OSNR in amp :-
OSNR[dB] = 58[dBm] + Pin[dBm] -attenuation coefficient(dB)*distance -Noise figure[dB]

Now let us take a scenario , since the network is already deployed so in order to improve the OSNR either we improve the fiber losses in case of degradation or if there is no degradation or there is little scope to improve the losses then we can improve the OSNR by increasing the per channel power of the amplifier as we cant reduce the noise figure of the already deployed amplifier isnt it :) .Here there will be a trade off with the Kerr effect coming into picture , but all that we are concerned with OSNR not matter what may come in way ;)

Choose amp which have lower noise figure , additionally they have the luxury playing with per channel power within their planning tool and check the eventual OSNR
