Dr. Chand dedicates this brief review to the memory of his late mother, Smt. Ram Devi passed away in July 1972. Her premature death was a deeply personal and devastating experience for Dr. Chand, shaping his journey for higher education and understanding of health and wellness.?

"I am stuffed and dehydrated; I am not crazy." Dr. Chand's CAM approaches to Ease Defecation "Pooping'" Naresh Chand, Ph.D., Courtesy of ADRxSynergy.

Talking about popping and constipation is routine in Eastern cultures. It is awkward to talk about it in more civilized cultures.

"I am stuffed and dehydrated; I am not crazy." This feeling of being stuffed and thirsty affects the quality of life and progression of many CNS diseases and comorbidities in 10-30% of Americans of all ages. Most people often ignore the apparent signs of poor health- the circumference of the belly (visceral obesity), the color of urine (signal for dehydration), and the consistency of the stool (signal for gut issues).

The leading causes of discomfort in emptying the rectum are stress, insomnia, not drinking optimal water, not eating plant-based foods rich in gel water and fiber, subsidized constipating foods, and consumption of too many medications and supplements, as well as a sedentary lifestyle.?

Stress, dehydration, ultra-processed foods, dairy, sodas, alcohol, a lack of fiber (plant-based foods), plastic particles in the water, body, and gut, and little or no mobility in the torso region of the body promote constipation, dysbiosis, and visceral obesity and facilitate dysregulated chronic neuroinflammation, which is a persistent and uncontrolled inflammation in the body and brain, in 10-30% of senior Americans, including Dr. Chand (1973-1998).? This prevalence may be as high as >50-80% among the aging population (over 80).

Constipation can significantly accelerate the progression of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's, leading to brain shrinkage and loss of memories and independence.

Identifying the foods, drinks, and other lifestyle factors that cause constipation, mitigating risk factors, and understanding the connection between lifestyle choices and gut and brain health is crucial. It puts us in control and emphasizes our responsibility to manage our health and prevent the onset of gut-brain diseases, including MCI, AD, and other CNS diseases.?

?

Causes of Constipation:

Food addiction - Eating ultra-processed foods, dairy- cheese, lack of dietary fiber

Drinking sodas and milk, alcohol

Constipating medications (especially drugs that alter the function of the gut and brain) and supplements, especially when not drinking adequate water or not eating foods rich in gel water.

Lack of mobility (especially in the Torso and visceral organs)

Stress, visceral fat, and chronic constipation can impact enteric hormones (synthesis, secretion, or actions) in several ways, including cortisol GLP1 agonists and other hormones, and thus contribute further to the obesity epidemic.

Symptoms: CNS- Mood disorders, anxiety, brain fog, headache, memory, unpleasant behaviors and quality of life changes

"I am stuffed and dehydrated; I am not crazy." We are what we eat and drink. More honestly, we are what we feed to our friends (there are >100 trillion gut microbiota, a complex ecosystem unique to each human being). We often do not optimize feasting for our friends the gut microbiota, a complex symbiotic relationship in our digestive system.?

Constipation can manifest in a variety of symptoms, including discomfort, irritation, agitations, and even more severe issues like hemorrhoids, anal fissures, and rectal bleeding. Recognizing these symptoms is crucial for seeking appropriate medical advice and treatment.

Recognizing these symptoms is crucial as it empowers individuals to seek appropriate medical advice and treatment and ensures they are well informed about their health.

Fecal impaction

???? Swelling of the rectum.

???? A loss of sensation in and around your anus. Suboptimal function of the pelvic floor muscles

???? Bowel incontinence.

???? You are bleeding from your anus.

???? Rectal prolapse – where part of your lower intestine falls out of place and protrudes from your anus (this can also occur because of repeated straining in people with chronic constipation)

If left untreated, constipation can lead to serious health issues such as visceral obesity, neuroinflammation, neurodegeneration, and many comorbidities. However, these conditions are largely preventable with the proper knowledge and lifestyle changes, giving us hope and the power to take proactive steps to protect our brain health and reduce the risk of these health issues.

Dr. Chand dwells on the CAM approaches to address irregularity in passing the stool:

Feast for Gut microbiota:?

Mild laxative plant-based foods rich in gel water and fiber - well soaked, well-cooked Whole/ancient grains, beans, oatmeal, nuts, and seeds; and mushrooms, parsley, coriander; magnesium-rich foods, such as dark leafy greens, avocados, and fermented foods and pumpkin seeds, etc.

Hydration: One can try sipping hot water, with or without 5 ml of apple cider vinegar, 2-5 ml of homemade lemon or lime juice, a pinch of black pepper, or herbs and spices, and sipping ADRxSynergy, Calm tea, green tea, or smoothies with prunes, etc. All can adjust the volume of the tea (fluid) and sipping speed to each person's needs and conditions.

Calm tea—Affordable and effective mild laxative (each person can find their optimal dose and time of sipping): https://amzn.to/3JPGVNV.10-20 cents per day. Note: Recently, Dr. Chand had some reactions to food or a subtle infection. He added one cup of this powder to 16 oz hot water and microwaved it to the point of boiling for 1-2 minutes. The suspension turned into a clear solution. He sipped calm tea slowly and felt instantly relieved gastric discomfort, which helped with sleep. Calm tea would reduce the symptoms of MCI and AD and comorbidities.

Note: Please reach out to women (Senators, Congress, and the White House) to mandate clinical studies on Calm TEA and ADRxSynergy and purple-colored vegetables, beans, fruits, seeds, grains, and herbs and spices for the greater good of all (minorities and others).? ?

Chronic constipation is a common complication determined by difficult and rare passage of stool or both. The difference in definition of constipation has led to a wide range of reported prevalence (i.e., between 1% and 80%). Various factors are involved in the pathogenesis of the disease, including type of diet, genetic predisposition, colonic motility, absorption, socioeconomic status,?daily behaviors, and biological and pharmaceutical factors. Diagnostic and therapeutic options play a key role in the treatment of chronic constipation. There are still debates about the timing of these diagnostic and therapeutic algorithms. https://journals.lww.com/md-journal/fulltext/2018/05180/Chronic_constipation__A_review_of_literature.6.aspx
