I am studying art

I have been studying art for the last two years. Except with my close friends, I don't talk about this. In professional settings, I don't share this information.
Recently, I proudly posted my INSEAD Certification in corporate governance on LinkedIn. Yet, my LinkedIn connections are unaware of the following four certifications I gained from Sotheby's Institute of Art:
- Introduction to Curating
- Art History: 1860 to Today
- Art as Global Business
- Art of Collecting
Why? Maybe, I thought they were irrelevant to my professional profile. Maybe, I thought I would be judged.
Yet, art studies have changed me profoundly as a professional. This realisation led me to include them on my CV and LinkedIn.
For example, I believe I am less judgemental. I no longer jump to a conclusion. I am more interested in why someone has done something, and what techniques they have used than if I like their work. I don't need to like or dislike everything! Somethings I can just observe and reserve judgment.
I am also more selective. When I visit a gallery or exhibition for example, I don't try to see and understand all the works. Instead, I identify a few pieces of works that interests me and spend my time studying them in detail. This way, I absorb and really learn them.

Beyond the aesthetics, art makes us think, gives us new perspectives, shows us new ways of seeing things. By being aware of this, I feel I am more open to new ideas, can relate better to the works of conceptual and philosophical artists. For instance, René Magritte's exhibition I saw over the weekend was delightful. He was a Belgian surrealist, known for depicting ordinary objects in unusual contexts to challenge our preconceived perceptions of reality. He made me think.
These are some of my reflections on how art has changed me professionally. I believe studying art enriches us regardless of our profession.
I welcome comments and feedback.
PS. I have been studying art online at Sotheby's Institute of Art. The courses range from 6 to 8 weeks. I spend up to 4 hours a week. The courses follow a ritual; the weekly course materials open on Wednesdays, usually involving a pre-recorded video lecture and some reading, you contribute to weekly discussions and submit an assignment or two during the course.

2 å¹´Congrats on taking this commitment to your art studies to the end. I have known so many people who said "art and engineering have nothing to do with one another" and I've always believed that to be so very wrong.

2 å¹´I remember a visit to the Uffizi Gallery where we had a great guide who talked us through the history of art. I remember visits to great galleries and museums and exhibitions. I think art enriches life and I think it is clear studying art has enriched the way you see the world.
Hurol, that's so cool and INTERESTING. When I was in London I lived in a house of 3 artist, who all scratched a living, on the modern art scene. I used to love going hone after a day of precision targeting, data enabled decision making ..etc. I didn't always "get it", but I loved it, and they opened my mind to a completely new world..
