I am no Soothsayer
Amit Khanna
Negotiating complex transactions and Investing in opportunities are my passion and my work. Supporting creative talent in the field of Fine Arts, Culinary Arts and Visual Media in gaining global prominence.
What I do know is how I feel and what I will do.
I have realised, you need very little to survive and be happy. In the warmth of your home and the happiness of your family, the whole world exists.
I do know that in the future, I will need to build safety nets. Both at work and home. Savings for families and reserves in businesses to carry us through Black Swan events like the one we are in currently.
I will also create hedges and continuity plans:- Business Continuity Plans and Family Continuity Plans. I will create a Plan B location to go to live in as a hedge. I will be part of businesses which could potentially hedge each other in time of crises.
I will invest in living in the ‘now’, better homes, better offices, a better quality of life, ‘today’ not ‘tomorrow’. Else, the extraordinary bottle of wine I was saving might remain unopened forever.
I will embrace this digital revolution which has led to the fastest absorption of technology across the diversity of my country. And as always, I will continue to find opportunities in the darkest of clouds.
I will also back the hungry entrepreneurs who emerge from the ashes of this crisis: those who lose their jobs and others who simply discover their real purpose during this lockdown.
I will pay more in taxes as the government will need to find ways to bridge the exchequer gaps.
I will respect and endorse, those employers who handle their employees, customers and suppliers with compassion during these tough times. Financial years come and go, legacies remain.
I do fear though, that as we come out of this crisis and enter another where recession takes centre stage, we will face unseen and unimaginable measure of unemployment, distress, poverty, mental illness, domestic and sexual abuse, crime and suicides.
Yet my greatest fear remains, would we have learnt? Will we be better prepared the next time this happens? Or will we revert to the mean? Back to destroying this planet, again feeling infallible. I would hope not, yet history tells us something else, it repeats itself.

4 年Amit it is inevitable that the human race will revert to its disbelief of infallibility. But I'm optimistic that more and more people will eventually want to change and rethink their priorities as more apocalyptic times approach... I admire your honesty to ask the difficult questions that we all seldom answer...

4 年Very well written and very thoughtful. Do we learn the lessons? Not only this pandemic but so many other events of life provide us an opportunity to correct our course but we just don't take a pause and unlearn to relearn. Hope that this extended time helps everyone to be happy with whatever one has.. and enjoy it now and not keep running and saving it for tomorrow.
