I AM MY WORTH! SUPREME COURT OR NOT!

I AM MY WORTH! SUPREME COURT OR NOT!

U.S. PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN, DEMOCRAT:

“Today’s court decision is a severe disappointment to so many people, including me. But we cannot let the decision be a permanent setback for the country. We need to keep an open door of opportunities. We need to remember that diversity is our strength.”

FORMER U.S. PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA, DEMOCRAT:

“Like any policy, affirmative action wasn’t perfect. But it allowed generations of students like Michelle and me to prove we belonged. Now it’s up to all of us to give young people the opportunities they deserve — and help students everywhere benefit from new perspectives.”

On Thursday, June 29, 2023, the Supreme Court made a significant decision by ending Affirmative Action.

The issues of race, racism, systemic racism, and injustice are not comparable to a medically confirmed pregnancy. In the past, there were laws that granted rights to White people to engage in acts of slavery, violence, and discrimination against Black people. Native American Indians, who originally owned the lands, also suffered greatly through lies, oppression, violence, and loss. These dark chapters in history shaped the nation, with individuals donning white hoods and sheets and murdering Black people while burning crosses, as symbols of their distorted religious beliefs, and exerting control and power, especially over Black people.

When the Germans sought a model for enslaving the Jews, they were appalled by the extreme degradation and brutal acts inflicted upon slaves by white American slave owners. Similarly, when Prime Minister Daniel F. Malan and the National Party government in South Africa implemented institutionalized racial segregation and discrimination, they looked to the practices of slavery in the United States for inspiration. The history of race-based superiority and inferiority is filled with evidence of how to lie, steal, and oppress Worth for profit. However, with eyes wide shut, we know that there are no inherently superior or inferior people; there are only inferior and superior systems. Superior White systems are set in place to perpetuate White Power and inequality. If we continue to base our future on the patterns of the past, we will only replicate a better version of a flawed past. Instead, if we focus on building a better present, we will always have a strong foundation from which to construct an improved tomorrow. It is imperative that we do not forget the atrocities we have committed against each other in the claim of Whiteness.

The perpetuation of unnecessary human suffering does not arise from hatred, hurt, or wars based on truths about one another. Rather, it stems from the acts of lying, stealing, and oppressing the intrinsic WORTH of personal, individual, and collective rights while using our extrinsic WORTH (eWorth), and bold with attempts to rationalize why such actions should persist. If our religions, laws, and systems are built upon falsehoods, theft, and the oppression of others, it should come as no surprise when those same institutions fail us.

Have we been foolish enough to believe that by constructing upon a foundation of wrongs, we can make those wrongs right? A band-aid is not a cure, it is but a temporary fix that if worn for too long we could fool ourselves into believing that we cured the wound. Perhaps we can be inspired by this act to react by finding more attached cures for the ills of lies, theft, and oppression.

Undoubtedly, the termination of Affirmative Action is a loss. It is akin to an unexpected bankruptcy that befalls a family-owned business. However, where do we go from here? I am my Worth?. You are your Worth. They are their Worth. Long before the era of slavery, during times of indentured servitude and brutality our ancestors endure, even before we fully grasped the concept of consciousness, each one of us was already bestowed with an intrinsic Worth (iWorth) — the Warding of Ownership Rights Through Hardship — that brought us through it all to the present moment. We are all bonded passengers of this preordained WORTH. In spite of the numerous hardships encountered in our journey to claim our rights just to be present. We must remain the living proof of being the only constant potential in our lives. The end of Affirmative Action is but another obstacle that we will overcome with the power of our personal, individual, and collective WORTH.
