I am a messy Doctor.. Don't touch me..!!"
I know it’s tough to choose this profession. I know I will not have Saturday nights and Sunday hang-outs. I know I need to leave my kids in dark hours and attend the emergency.
But I feel privileged to serve humanity in ways that others cannot. I have been trained for years. I have been mastered my professions. I have risen to countless challenges along the way. I have treated cancer, transplanted organs, mended hearts. I saved lives of many. But this is different. COVID-19 is different.
The world is united against a common enemy — invisible, but deadly. We, The Doctors were kept in front lines. Irrespective of our specializations we kept our hand in hand to fight against this pandemic. We kept our egos aside and are equipped for the task ahead of us.
During this fight for humanity, we lost our colleagues, abstained from families, self quarantined and haven’t slept for longer than three hours in the past two weeks. I miss my dinner time with my children and the forehead kisses of my partner. I remember my girl asking me –Dad, How long are you going to be gone? –But unfortunately I don’t have answer for it.
I remember my colleague shedding tears and talking about his son, who comes running towards him to cuddle on his shoulders. He shouts from distance on his 4 years son and says "Beta, I am a messy Doctor.. Don't touch me..!!"
We are a sort of a pariah in our family. The staff nurse who will be utmost attentive while treating the patients, strips naked on her porch before running inside to take a shower. Some of my counterparts are sharing passwords and insurance with their partners in case they get sick.
We may not be able to hear your sunset clapping or your cheers on the street; the ringing of ventilators is all we hear. Yet when we walk home, we know you are behind us.
So, today while people normally running away from tragedy, We are going through all the blood, sweat and tears to keep our family of people round the globe #SAFE. So I appeal you to stay at home and protect yourself from this pandemic.
