The King of Politics
Dave Dutton-Fraser

When the common man
Lays down at night
He dreams of many things.
Of wealth and fame
And divine right -
To wield the power of kings.
To shape the world as he sees fit
For others to achieve their destiny
But the common man
Makes a common mistake
In supposing his rule is free.
Courtiers and foreign princes
Who all surround his throne
All hold his ear to insure
His power is never his own.
To help the mother of a bastard child
Or feed and shelter the starving masses
He has to barter souls with devilish men,
Placate and serve the upper classes.
So if I had the power of kings
Even if just for awhile
I'lld throw down my crown,
Abandon my throne
And gladly live in exile...
In protest.
