The story of Ishan Anjana’s successful entrepreneurial journey
The Bank of Ceylon’s (BOC) Youth Loan program continues to transform lives and businesses across Sri Lanka by empowering young entrepreneurs to achieve their dreams. Among its success stories is 25-year-old Ishan Anjana, owner of Anjana Exports (Pvt) Ltd., who has turned his vision into reality, exporting Sri Lankan spices to global markets.?
“Today, I am exporting spices to several countries, thanks to the assistance I received from the BOC Youth Loan program,” said Anjana, reflecting on his entrepreneurial journey.?
The BOC Youth Loan program, a flagship initiative by Sri Lanka’s leading bank, serves as a vital resource for young entrepreneurs, providing not only financial capital but also technical and strategic support. Since its inception, the program has empowered over 10,000 aspiring business owners, helping them start and expand ventures while entering competitive international markets.?

For Anjana, the journey began with a dream to become an entrepreneur. “I dreamt of becoming an entrepreneur from a young age, and that dream led me to start this business,” he said. Today, his company produces 14 different spice-based products and exports to countries such as Australia, Romania, and the United Kingdom . “This is proof that with determination and a clear focus, anyone can succeed,” he added.
?While his initial steps were supported by the Sri Lanka Industrial Development Board, the pivotal moment came when he secured the BOC Youth Loan. This funding, offered at a highly competitive 7% interest rate, enabled him to scale production and meet international demand. The additional guidance he received through the bank’s SME and Export Circles further strengthened his ability to grow and manage his business.?
Anjana noted the role of the Bank of Ceylon’s staff in his success. “The support I received was exceptional. The bank’s courteous and professional service ensured that I had the confidence and resources to navigate my business journey,” he shared. The funding allowed him to successfully fulfill a significant cinnamon export order to the U.K., a milestone that would not have been possible without the bank’s support.?
The BOC Youth Loan program is designed not only to provide financial assistance but also to instill confidence and inspire entrepreneurs to take calculated risks. Anjana shared his perspective: “The guidance I received on properly utilizing funds and making informed business investments ensure the sustainable growth of my business.”?
