The definition of Black. By Tony Richardson.
The dictionary definition of the word “Black” as a descriptive adjective, noun, and verb are as follows:
1.) of the very darkest color owing to the absence of or complete absorption of light; the opposite of white. – Adjective
2.) lacking hue and brightness; absorbing light without reflecting any of the rays composing it. – Adjective
3.) soiled or stained with dirt: -- Adjective – Example That shirt was black within an hour
4.) gloomy; pessimistic; dismal – Adjective – Example a black outlook
5.) deliberately; harmful; inexcusable: -- Adjective – Example a Black Lie
6.) boding ill; sullen or hostile; threatening – Adjective – Example black words; black looks.
7.) the color at one extreme end of the scale of grays, opposite to white, absorbing all light incident upon it. – Noun
8.) a member of any of various dark-skinned peoples, especially those of Africa, Oceania, and Australia.
9.) Often Offensive. African American. – Noun
10.) black clothing, especially as a sign of mourning: -- Noun
11.) of any human group having dark-colored skin, especially of African or Australian Aboriginal ancestry. – Adjective and Noun
12.) black color or pigment. – Noun
13.) make black, especially by the application of black polish. -- Verb
I have decided I never want to be called the word “Black” again. Every person God created of color is just that…of color or different pigment. Not the plague as we are defined as currently. We all have seen so many words become taboo over the years based on their hateful meaning and the pain behind them. Why do we continue to accept the word Black when it is such a keenly negative word in general when referring to civilized individuals and children of God? The last time I checked Caucasian American or of Anglo-Saxon descent was also a very broad way of describing lighter-skinned races of people. People of the world classified as “White” don’t reject the reference because it puts their race in a good light on pretty much every context. Anyone considered Black or even Brown needs to demand being referred to as what they actually are…Americans.
These words have been disowned and pretty much diminished except with those who believe heavily within racism:
Porch Monkey
Spic
Spade
Wetback
Nigger
Spot
Sand Nigger
African’t
Coon
Baboon
Biscuit Lip
Bo-Bo
Spook
Burnt Match
Butter
Chalky
Cookie
Crispy
Darkie
And On and On and On. We in the public eye have for the most part abolished the public use of these terms to describe Black and Brown people. Why is Black still so widely used when we have a clear alternative to it as African American or Latino American? You know what is really crazy…the fact that we call Europeans simply “European”. Let’s figure out a way to stop identifying ourselves in colors when there are so many other variables that define us as differences within society.
Some may consider what I am saying extreme; Go right ahead. That is your opinion and you are certainly entitled to it; but bottom line is with racism being such a hot topic in this country; one would think we would find better ways of identifying ourselves. Black, Brown, and any color references as an adjective, noun, or even verb would be a good start in getting us all beyond racism. Maybe I am wrong and maybe I am right; but this African American mixed with so many races to be honest would not like to be referred to as Black moving forward.
Weigh in. I welcome it.
Check this:
Caucasian is an old term used to refer to people who are Caucasoid (Europeans, Middle Easterners, South Asians, etc.). White is the same things as Caucasian, except when somebody says White, they are most likely referring to Europeans, but it can sometimes include all Caucasians. Anglo-Saxons are from Britain, they are also White. I will leave you with this:
White is referred to in our history as being bright, light, of light, of good, of plenty, of right, and a whole lot more. If I were Caucasian American I would not want to be referenced to as a color that has been identified with differences seen with Lone Ranger and Tonto. Crazy right? Think on it. Let's change the way we all interact and support one another. Period. American is American. Not a designated racial discernment left up to the definitions of those ignorant of the world influence, evolution, and way we all should interact.
No more Race. None.

9 年Caucasoid is not synonymous with White. 11 million human beings, mostly Caucasoid, were murdered by monsters in the Holocaust who considered themselves s superior simply by nationality and not the tone of skin. Just because you have lighter complexion does not make you "White," anymore than having a darker complexion make you "Black," as my Indigenous Australian friends remind me.

9 年Can't agree more. I'm so tired of all the unconstructive blathering-on about race in the media. Its so destructive. Mike Ruff said it best when he quoted MLK. King would be saddened to see what's become of his movement today.
