A few years ago, I wrote a post about the benefits of joining LinkedIn. Every time I shared my experiences, a top leader openly criticized me, not once but consistently, whenever I posted about LinkedIn Success.
In an attempt to address this, I sent them a private message, offering a free training session for their team on optimizing LinkedIn, even though I suspected their response might be less than enthusiastic.
True to my expectations, their reply was sarcastic and dismissive. They claimed they did not know a single person who had success using LinkedIn, emphasizing that their team preferred Facebook for generating leads.
With a calm response, I said, “You do know one.” After a moment of silence, I conducted a quick search and sent them a screenshot. I pointed out that these results were not from people already within their company but were from individuals involved in network marketing or related fields—a whopping 556,000 results looking for opportunities.
Interestingly, soon after our exchange, I noticed that this critic began posting on LinkedIn themselves, albeit missing a crucial understanding of the platform’s potential. This shows a need to be more open to learning.
I joined LinkedIn not for followers or fans but to find a community of like-minded individuals. This platform has allowed me to connect with people who help me grow personally and professionally.
This year alone, my connections have led to wonderful conversations, collaborations, and real opportunities to assist others in my network, even making lifelong friends along the way.
When I started using LinkedIn, there was something uniquely captivating about it. The platform was filled with new people, names, and connections—far from the usual Facebook comments and reactions.
