Is Hyundai Sonata Retiring Internationally?

Korean national car, Hyundai Sonata is reportedly being discontinued by Hyundai Motors. The manufacturer plans to end its production by this year. The company seems to have no plans to develop or launch the next generation of Hyundai Sonata.

Prevalence and Popularity in Pakistan?

Hyundai Lucky Motors launched Hyundai Sonata in July 2021. This car became popular in Pakistan and registered a good sales volume for its both 1.8 & 2.0 variants. If we do a comparison of Hyundai Elantra and Hyundai Sonata based on sales, there were several times when Sonata crossed the volume sales of Elantra, which was a big moment for the company and franchiser.

Plans of Discontinuation?

In other countries, all the car buyers were waiting for an upgraded version of Hyundai Sonata but unfortunately, strong rumors are floating about discontinuation. According to an interview with one of the company officials, the development project of DN9 is not in the pipeline. It looks like Hyundai Motors is very much clear about ending Sonata. However, It looks like they might produce an electric version of the Hyundai Sonata. The production lines will be shifted to produce EV vehicles.

Hyundai Sonata was the sixth best-selling car in its native country. Hyundai Sonata is getting discontinued but there are rumors that this variant may receive a facelift variant. If this rumor gets true, the company will have a few more years to retain its market grip and this variant afloat for a few more years in the international and local markets.

Furthermore, Hyundai already has a mid-sized electric sedan in the works with the Ioniq 6, which is set to be revealed this year (2022).

The sedan, also known as the national car of South Korea, was launched in 1985, and in the last 37 years, it became the best seller in the country. During its life span, it witnessed the whole process from weak to strong and from being unknown to famous.
