The Hypha Wire | 5/3/24 Edition

We’re approaching the first anniversary of our company rebranding from Morey Creative Studios to Hypha HubSpot Development.

One of the major reasons for the rebrand was that we didn’t feel our services were adequately represented under the MCS name. We had changed. Practically, that meant less creative logo designs and more technical HubSpot work.

Now, we’ve done some amazing work with HubSpot in the last year (if I do say so myself). We’ve curated the team we need, and they’re uniquely positioned to take on complex projects. Plus, the solutions they develop can help others outside the scope of these projects. And we want people to know that.

So, we put our content hats on and decided to properly showcase these incredible instances. We’ve started publishing some really technical content to inspire businesses across all industries and illustrate what can be done with the HubSpot platform.

Our first piece (linked below) is a guide through a custom integration, told by Hypha Integrations Developer, Zack Lyons. And this only scratches the surface—we have so much more to come.

So keep your eye on the blog feed, because you never know when the exact solution you need may come across your screen.

Let’s Not Focus So Much on Being ‘Good’ at Working Remotely

By Dillon Friday , Director of Client Services, Hypha HubSpot Development

My friend’s company recently issued a return to office mandate. The company is moving to a hybrid model, three days in the office, two days wherever the employee chooses.?

My friend has lamented the change in policy for myriad reasons, but mostly for one in particular: he’s more efficient working from home. He’s better at it than working in the office.?

The conversations with my friend—and additional ones with my fellow Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, voting precinct workers, who asked me if I enjoy working from home and, ‘Is it difficult?’—have me pondering a question of my own: Should we focus so much on being ‘good’ at working remotely??

Let me put it another way: I don’t think I ever considered if I was ‘good’ at working in an office. And I’m sure I’m not alone.?

In the last four years, I’ve found myself, both as an employee and lately as a manager, setting unrealistic personal and external expectations for remote work. It’s almost as if I’m challenging the notion that ‘we need to get back in the office’ by over communicating and stressing responses that arrive just a few minutes later than I hoped. On the flip side, I sometimes get stuck in the perception that I haven’t been available enough.?

Let me stop to say I’m grateful to work for a company that has consistently supported the remote work lifestyle. That’s come from leadership’s genuine care for employees and also out of necessity. We’ve expanded from a marketing agency with headquarters on Long Island and Philadelphia to a nearly fully remote workforce that once stretched from Los Angeles to Asheville.?

I doubt we’ll ever offer the same hybrid model that my friend’s company has mandated. That presents a challenge of its own. Remote work is quite literally part of the job. The onus is on us, then, to ensure it doesn’t supersede our work. After all, it’s a lot to ask of anyone to be great at their role AND be great at working remotely, particularly at home. We need to keep the focus on the work first and foremost.?

In my experience, working remotely (and I have a home office set up for what it’s worth) requires tremendous self-discipline, accountability, patience, transparency, and communication. Importantly, it also requires self and external forgiveness. All of which are key components of succeeding in any role.?

When we emphasize those attributes, we don’t worry so much about whether or not someone stepped away to empty the dishwasher, walk the dog, or just take a breather because they needed it. Their results will speak for themselves. That’s true in remote settings and the office.

Marketing Dive : Cookies get another stay of execution — but have marketers already moved on? by Chris Kelly ?

Cookies are here to stay—for now. For the third time, Google has delayed the deprecation of cookies. Despite this news, the general consensus is that this should not delay your post-cookie strategies. The deprecation is inevitable, and planning for that now can only serve you positively in the future.

?“‘The most recent timeline held that the tech giant would phase out the tracking technology for all users in the second half of 2024, following a test deprecating cookies for 1% of users that began in January. However,?Google said in a blog ?posted April 23 that it now hopes to proceed with deprecation early next year.”

WorkLife : ‘I’ll interrupt them back’: Micro-feminism is taking off in the workplace by Hailey Mensik ?

This piece serves as a good reminder that while we have made strides in the realm of gender equality at work, we are far from an equal world. Women still have to go to exorbitant lengths to be seen and treated fairly in the workplace; and if a strategy like micro-feminism is making waves and shedding light on this longstanding issue, I’m all for it.

“Ultimately, the trend is about all the small changes people can make, particularly in the workplace, to fight gender inequality. While women certainly have made strides in the workplace in recent decades, they still earned about 82 cents for every dollar earned by men in 2022, according to the Pew Research Center. And women represent roughly one in four C-suite executive leaders, while women of color just one in 16, according to data from Mckinsey.”

Connecting Global Shop ERP to HubSpot With a Custom API

Our manufacturing client is adding HubSpot to its stack of tools to manage and drive business. Currently, it’s utilizing an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system called Global Shop to track purchase, manufacturing, billing, and shipping processes. The client is satisfied with how this handles those aspects of its business and doesn’t want to migrate away from that system, but wishes to enhance its abilities by integrating with HubSpot.

Building a connection between HubSpot and Global Shop Solutions provides its team with several significant advantages:

  • Simplified Workflows:?Instead of having to switch between two applications, the client’s customer service team will be able to perform all of their duties in HubSpot.?
  • Time & Resources Savings:?The integration automatically syncs data from one system to another—freeing up resources and team members to do other important work instead of data entry.
  • Less Potential for Human Error:?Reducing the number of applications the client’s team must conduct data entry on helps ensure no part of the process falls through the cracks. Manually copying data from one system to another was an extra step in their workflows that could introduce errors, or worse, be missed entirely. This integration eliminates that!
  • Single Source of Truth:?Everyone in the organization has access to the same information—making it much easier to track customer engagements from start to finish.?
