Hypertensive Heart Disease

When high blood pressure lingers for many years, it causes hypertensive heart disease. Hypertensive heart disease is a group of cardiovascular conditions that develop in people who have high blood pressure.

When blood pressure is not properly managed, there is a strain on the heart. The strain on the heart makes it difficult for the heart to pump blood. The heart muscles and walls of blood vessels get thick and weak leading the heart to fail.?

WHO ARE AT RISK?

  • People who do not manage their blood pressure.
  • Patients older than 65 years who have high blood pressure.
  • Women with high blood pressure are three times more likely to develop hypertensive heart disease and men with high blood pressure are two times more likely.
  • Adults older than 45 years
  • People who have diabetes
  • People who have high cholesterol.
  • People who do not exercise.
  • People who eat a high-salt diet?

CAUSES

High blood pressure that is not treated and managed causes hypertensive heart disease.

  • You would also be asked to change certain lifestyle habits. You might be asked to exercise more, eat less salty foods, lose weight, drink less alcohol, and stop smoking and using tobacco.?
  • Your doctor would prescribe medicines to treat cardiovascular issues that treat high blood pressure, make it easier for your heart to pump blood, and loosen your blood vessels.
