Hypermedia Design for Machine Interfaces Part 2

This is an update on the investigation into the use of REST and hypermedia architectural style for "Internet of Things" connected products and services.

As with the WWW, the IoT can benefit from the scalability, evolvability, interoperability, and other architectural qualities of the WWW.

This research focuses on the use of and extensions to the REST architectural style required by IoT use cases. Specifically, we look into dynamic resource composition and discovery, asynchronous communication patterns, content formats for constrained devices, operation with multiple transfer protocols, and other IoT use case feature requirements.

We summarize the results from the Machine Hypermedia Toolkit experimental IoT framework, and look at lessons learned from these experiments.

We then look forward to applying these lessons to a new project to implement a resource layer and abstract transfer layer for a multi-protocol Web of Things Servient. The servient pattern provides a consistent programming interface for both consuming and exposing Web of Things resources.
