Hyper Wellness Spaces: Immersive Sanctuaries

A new raft of new luxury wellness concepts are pushing the boundaries of high-end hospitality, offering wealthy customers a carefully curated blend of holistic well-being and opulence.

Hyper wellness spaces lean into growing demand for bespoke wellness treatments and immersive experiences. The global wellness industry is worth $1.8 trillion, with 82% of US consumers saying they consider wellness a top or important priority in their lives, McKinsey found in a 2023 report . And as we explored in The Wonder Economy , spending on experiences rose 65% from 2019 to 2023, according to 2023 data from Mastercard.

These new wellness spaces offer an opportunity for total immersion – both in terms of the beautifully crafted environments they provide and their ability to let visitors detach from everyday concerns and completely relax. The case studies outlined below all have something slightly otherworldly about them, thanks to their potent combination of futuristic technology and serene, aesthetically pleasing design. These are sanctuaries for body and mind, where customers can indulge in a range of wellness activities, from the latest spa treatments to augmented meditation sessions. The emphasis is on providing a comprehensive wellness experience that not only pampers but also rejuvenates, aligning with the increasing consumer demand for services that support not only physical but mental well-being too.

One of the key drivers behind the growth of luxury wellness spaces is the rising awareness of the benefits of holistic health. Affluent consumers are increasingly seeking out experiences that offer more than just physical relaxation – they want to engage in activities that enhance their overall quality of life. In fact, despite an uncertain economic backdrop, health and fitness remains a priority spending area for consumers regardless of income level, according to a 2022 study by Accenture. Among high earners, two in five had booked a luxury trip or wellness treat for themselves in the year ahead.

Technological innovation is a key aspect of hyper wellness spaces, driving their appeal and effectiveness. When it comes to selecting wellness products, efficacy and scientific credibility are two of the most important factors consumers consider, according to McKinsey’s 2023 Future of Wellness survey . Virtual consultations, personalised regimens created with the assistance of artificial intelligence, health tracking tech and the latest specialist wellness equipment all enable a highly bespoke approach to wellness. The tech is also a source of real-time insights and data that can be used to inform future treatments, building loyalty and improving the service and experience offered to customers.
