Hyper-creative: The Noun

Hyper-creative is no longer an adjective.

“Hyper” is historically a word that comes with overbearing connotations. Hyper, hyperactive, hypersensitive, shoot, even hyperventilate means too much breathing if that can even make sense. So when applied to creativity, “hyper-creative”, by definition, sounds as if you’re describing someone or something that’s too creative.

But in today’s day and age, we know that you can never be too creative; so let’s reframe it. We’re not using hyper-creative to describe individuals that have too many ideas but poor follow through. A hyper-creative in modern context is a person with the desire and skills to play in multiple creative sandboxes with no interest to be confined to just one.

Hyper-creatives are photographers, directors, stylists, and curators; often simultaneously. They work in advertising, fashion, music, and lifestyle. But one thing is the same:

They create.

They create as if their lives depended on it. Because they do. Creativity is simply a by-product of living.

Sure, we may have too many ideas at times, (including myself here) and it may be hard to know which ones to pursue or ignore. But that doesn’t stop us.

Coming up with ideas is our art form.

So now that we’ve shifted our definition of hyper-creative from an adjective to a noun, we open our lens to see people. People who, given the right opportunity and honing of their “hyper” talents, can bring immense value to workplaces, film sets, schools, and studios all over the world.

So let the honing begin.
