The Hype vs. Reality: My Thoughts on DeepSeek vs. ChatGPT Plus

Lately, I’ve seen a wave of praise for DeepSeek. Video after video, post after post, all singing its praises. But how many of these people actually tested it with a critical eye?

I did. And I wasn’t impressed.

Don’t get me wrong—advancements in AI are exciting. But we need to separate hype from reality. Just because everyone is saying something is groundbreaking doesn’t make it so.

I compared DeepSeek to ChatGPT Plus, which I’ve been using extensively. Here’s what I found:

• Response Quality: ChatGPT Plus still delivers clearer, more well-structured, and nuanced responses. DeepSeek, in comparison, felt rough around the edges.
• Creativity: ChatGPT Plus provides better, more engaging, and context-aware responses. DeepSeek struggled with maintaining coherence in long-form answers.
• Accuracy: Misinformation is a problem with all AI models, but I noticed DeepSeek was more prone to generating questionable or inaccurate responses.
• Usability: The smooth interface and reliability of ChatGPT Plus make it my go-to for research, writing, and brainstorming. DeepSeek didn’t match up.

So why is DeepSeek getting so much hype? Simple: narratives spread faster than critical reviews. People jump on trends without verifying if they actually deliver on their promises.

AI is evolving rapidly, and competition is good. But let’s not lose sight of what actually works. Instead of chasing the next “big thing” because everyone else is, let’s ask: Does it actually outperform what we already have?

For me, ChatGPT Plus still holds the crown.
