Hymid and Arburg Triumph at the Plastics Industry Awards 2023

Recently we clinched a significant accolade at the Plastics Industry Awards 2023 in collaboration with our trusted supply partner Arburg Ltd. Our enduring supply partnership has not only stood the test of time but has now been officially recognised with the Supplier Partnership – Prime Machinery Award at PIA 2023!

For over 25 years, Hymid has placed its trust in Arburg’s state-of-the-art injection moulding machines to deliver precision and innovation. Our journey began in the 1990s with the acquisition of our inaugural Arburg machine, marking the genesis of our specialisation in two-shot and technical single-shot manufacturing.

What truly sets Hymid apart from our competitors is our expertise in two-shot, sometimes called twin-shot, 2K or multi-shot injection moulding, a capability made possible and perfected through our enduring partnership with Arburg. This award-winning collaboration underscores our dedication to continuous improvement and our commitment to going the extra mile for our valued customers.

In a recent project, Arburg engineers collaborated closely with Hymid’s expert technicians to upgrade one of our two-shot capable machines, addressing a crucial issue for one of our key medical clients. The modified ARBURG 470 ‘S’ machine, affectionately known as ‘ARBURG 8’, underwent technical upgrades, significantly enhancing dosage speed. The engineers also fitted additional valves to both injection units of the machine, yielding better movement control for cold feed products that require a sprue break.

This improvement empowers our operators to create more accurate components faster and more efficiently, ultimately leading to a machine that surpasses expectations.

This challenging project, saw Arburg engineers working on the factory floor in our facility to apply both hardware and software upgrades in collaboration with Hymid’s specialist technicians. This was a logistical challenge, as the usual practice would be to transport the machine off-site. However, due to time constraints and the continuous demand on the machine for production, this was not a feasible option.

The success of this project is a testament to the engineering prowess and planning abilities of both Hymid and Arburg. Despite the logistical challenges, plastics production was unaffected ensuring that the upgrades could take place without compromising quality or productivity on the factory floor.
