Hydrological Monitoring Station Commissioned In Kitagwenda District.
Farmers in Kitagwenda District have been warned against carrying out farming practices near the river Mpanga banks. This is meant to reduce the contamination of water and widespread disease. The address was made today during the commissioning of a Hydrological Monitoring station at Mpanga village in Mahyoro Sub county Kitagwenda District.
The ministry of water and environment commissioned a Hydrological Monitoring station to measure the water levels of Mpanga River especially during the rainy season. The Resident District Commissioner for Kitagwenda district warned that cultivators practicing farming near river banks will be arrested. He urged them to stop the activity with immediate effect.
He went on and urged all beneficiaries of the Parish Development Model money to use the finances wisely and not misuse the money stating that whoever fails to pay back, will face consequences.
Dr. Guma Brian, the team leader for the Albert Water Management Zone under the Ministry of Water and Environment explained that the system is bound to help people ailing from contaminated food and water. Capt. John Tugume who is in charge of Queen Elizabeth conservation area in Kitagwenda district assured the residents that the government would extend an Electric fence in the area preventing wild animals from invading their crops.
The Ministry was appreciated for their effort towards conservation of the river.
