Hydrogen-Powered Trains
Environmentalists have been telling us for many years that we must reduce our CO2 emissions and take decisive measures to tackle climate change.?
In Germany, railway companies such as Deutsche Bahn have decided to replace diesel-powered trains with hydrogen models to reduce CO2 emissions. Commissioned by Niederbarnimer Eisenbahn, the German company, Siemens Mobility, has been manufacturing the Mireo Plus H hydrogen-powered trains for the Berlin-Brandenburg metropolitan region, all of which will operate on the Heidekrautbahn railway network in December 2024.?
Those second-generation trains, featuring fuel cell drive systems and lithium-ion batteries, offer passengers CO2 emission-free travel. According to the CEO of Siemens Mobility, Michael Peter, those trains have faster acceleration on railway tracks thanks to their state-of-the-art technologies.??
Siemens Mobility's Mireo Plus H trains have a traction system producing 1.7 MW of traction power, 1.1 m/s2 of acceleration, and a peak speed of 160 km/h. They can also be refuelled within 15 minutes and have the lowest lifecycle costs on the market.
Those trains feature comfortable, spacious interiors with free WiFi, dynamic real-time displays showing passenger information, and multi-purpose areas for buggies, wheelchairs, and twelve bicycles.??
