It’s all about balance
OK, we all understand that since the pandemic life has changed, BIG TIME and that includes our work/life culture. Whilst for some companies it’s all systems go as their staff return to the office, for others, they have recognised there are plenty of reasons a home office split works just as well - in many cases even better.?
Did you know that 66% of Brits would rather continue to work from home rather than returning to the office full time? What’s more 65% would much rather carry out undesirable tasks than face the commute into work.
Of course that’s not to say office-based working doesn’t have it’s advantages - it most certainly does. There’s much to be said for segmenting work and life (relaxation) spaces. Mentally switching off as you physically walk through your front door after a day’s work in the office is undoubtedly satisfying and a clear signal for downtime to begin. Having said that, creating dedicated home work/chill out spaces is pretty straightforward too.
Virtually Human
Maintaining human relationships whilst isolated - is that possible? With digital advancements, yes it is. Workplace interaction and colleague banter is easily doable in a virtual world.?
Is it the same as in-person face-to-face interaction? 63% of people said that online interaction through voice or video call was indeed just as good as actually being there in person.
Not convinced? Well the stats don’t stop there: 57% believe that virtual communication was as effective at building colleague relationships.
77% of people think that those who simply pick up the phone are just as well connected as they would be if they were in the office.
Mental Wellbeing
Thankfully mental health is no longer a taboo subject. Considering the average adult spends around 90,000hours of their life at work, it is hugely reassuring that more employers now recognise the wellbeing benefits of implementing a work/office balance.
