Hybrid solutions: new thinking about pre-owned cars in Hong Kong

If we’re serious as a society about building a sustainable future, extending the lifecycle of cars has an important role to play. That’s why we at Inchcape recently took our first step into the Hong Kong pre-owned car market, becoming the first and only authorised distributor of Japan-imported pre-owned vehicles in the city.

Why have we done this? We want to give our customers an easy, cost-effective and reliable way to choose a car with a past. Every vehicle undergoes stringent screening for safety and quality before being accepted as part of the new T-Value range. Customer assurance is crucial, so the pedigree of every pre-loved car is displayed through a certificate and QR code that records the service history and overall condition of the vehicle. In addition, we have a 150 point-check, and specialist support and services from our award-winning maintenance teams. This attention to detail and transparency also helps vehicles maintain a higher value if the customer later sells their car, as certificated vehicles with complete records and information are generally priced higher in the market. In summary, we’ve combined our technical expertise, customer focus and digital experience to make reusing cars an attractive option.

At Inchcape, we recognise that the best change is the one you can make now. That’s why our new initiative puts a particular emphasis on promoting hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs). Pre-owned HEVs have a few key advantages: they can be sold at a reasonable price, they help their owners save on fuel – particularly important in these days of soaring costs – and customers can use them immediately, without the need to wait for charging points to be installed at their home and around the city. We know Hong Kong loves Toyota’s hybrids – they accounted for nearly a quarter of all hybrid vehicles sold locally in 2021– and so we’re positioning them as prime stock in our new pre-owned car initiative. Whilst all our authorised pre-owned vehicles come with a six-month warranty, people choosing a Toyota HEV also have peace of mind with a battery warranty of 7 years/100,000km.
