According to many Tech Pundits this is indeed the panacea for all enterprise workloads in today's world
While in the last decade we focussed on cost and performance in on premise IT assets while as per recent developments, the focus is purely on speed and user experience with cloud
We hear about a lot of challenges from the CIOs in today’s world…some of the key ones are:
- Escalating cloud and network costs
- Increasing security and governance risks
- Business continuity and disaster recovery not optimised
- Slow response of legacy business applications
- Network latency and performance challenges
- Cloud lock in due to closed APIs and bi-modal IT not allowing variable speed
Well if it is too complicated, Let us illustrate or simplify the complex business scenarios.
On one side there are corporate players who are System Integrators (SI) who would create a large private cloud infrastructure for an organization, manage it for some time and then move out which means that customers have put a capex to it and end up managing it at the end.
On the other hand, there are other major players who have built a factory model huge public cloud infrastructure which is supposed to be a self-service environment to be operated by the end customers. You will surely have some customers who would want on a public cloud model.
But what is the reality the CIOs are grappling with?
In a real world, one sees large organizations who have made huge investments in IT, there are plethora of applications running in their captive Data Centres or in 3rd party Data Centres. Now they cannot hive off all the investments on day one. So what will happen – a typical CIO would say - let that the current architecture and applications remain as it is. Without any disruption to our business or IT infrastructure, gradually take the workloads into public cloud infrastructure. They would ask for a technology refresh and all new workloads would move into public cloud space - whatever is getting obsolete may be put into public cloud. There could be some workloads which because of security or compliance issues cannot be put in public cloud – then that has to be put in private cloud. So in essence the business continuity demands of a CIO require a co-existence of his own premises data centre, a co-location data centre, a private cloud set-up of some applications and a host of other applications running on public cloud.
The crux of the matter is the world of Hybrid IT is here to stay.
NTT Com in India is equipped with handling the above scenario – the only player that has the capability of a large public cloud infrastructure operator and also act as a SI as well a co-location provider. On top of this to manage this complex hybrid IT environment we run a 24X& multi scale network operations centre and a dedicated security operations centre.
