Hybrid - Competitive Edge?

Hybrid - Competitive Edge?

“Companies failing to accommodate workers' preferences for hybrid working risk losing out to competitors in terms of recruitment and retention”.

- Gartner

For many employees, returning to pre-pandemic presenteeism is neither attractive nor practical.

Employers who insist on a full five days in the office will fail to attract and retain skilled employees. The more skilled or scarce those resources are (especially the tech industries, where there is a global skills gap), the less likely they are to be attracted to office bound positions. Competitors offering flexible working will win every time.

Presenteeism or business cultures with a proximity bias are viewed as positively Jurassic by skilled workers who have embraced hybrid working, and especially among millennials.

Productivity, effectiveness, and client service are (and should always have been) the mantra for all law firms. All business should be focussed on outcomes. Concentrating on deliverables and genuine methods to measure and manage them should override a culture of physical visibility every time.

According to Gartner, 71 percent of the US knowledge workforce will be fully remote and hybrid in 2023. In the UK, 67 percent of knowledge workers will continue to work either fully remote or hybrid.

What started as a pandemic related necessity is now largely irreversible. Businesses that fail to recognise this will struggle; firms that embrace remote and hybrid working models are set to gain a substantial edge over their competitors.
