HYBE, the company behind K-pop sensation BTS, has become the first entertainment company to be designated a conglomerate. According to the Fair Trade Commission’s announcement on the 15th, HYBE has been classified as a publicly disclosed business group with total assets exceeding 5 trillion won in the '2024 Major Business Groups.' The head of the group is Chairman Bang Si-hyuk, the founder and largest shareholder, holding 31.57% of HYBE's shares.

Chairman Bang established Big Hit Entertainment in 2005, successfully leading BTS to global fame. Big Hit Entertainment later changed its name to HYBE and continued to grow by incorporating various entertainment companies as subsidiaries under a multi-label system. A Fair Trade Commission official stated, “This is a reflection of the rapid growth of the Korean entertainment industry, particularly K-pop, whose major revenue sources are albums and performances."
