HV Test Services: Power Transformer Cold Commission & Testing, Turns Ratio
The function of a transformer is to transform power from one voltage level to another. The ratio test ensures that the transformer windings have the proper turns to produce the voltages required. The ratio is a measure of the voltage applied to the primary terminals to the voltage measured at the secondary terminals.
The international standard dictates that the measured turns ratio difference be not more than 0.5%.per nameplate ratio
If the measured ratio is more than 0, 5% from the stated nameplate ratio it indicates either a problem with the tap changer selector or an inter-turn fault.
