Reflecting back on the passing of Nipsey Hussle (March 31st 2019). It was one of those moments for me where you remember the exact place you were when you heard the news. I was driving from Edmonton to Fort McMurray on the highway 63 when I pulled over on the side of the road to digest what had happened. It was a such a shock to my system at the time. As the night before I was watching the Nipsey Hussle and Lauren London "Ask 30 Questions" GQ interview. I felt like his passing impacted me because of what he stood for : Implement risk in your own ventures. Be patient. Stand on the integrity of your character. Invest in yourself. Give back to your community.

I would like just to preface, I only became a Nipsey Hussle fan in 2018 when I heard the album Victory Lap (2018). This project earned him a Grammy nomination for best rap album. Victory Lap was album that taught me his philosophy. Life is an marathon and not a race, that while setbacks may momentarily keep people from following their dreams, they are all part of our individual journey's. What impacted me the most about his music was the overall message to be the best version of yourself and to stay dedicated to your craft. Overall, Victory Lap, gave the blueprint for anyone in their pursuit of success.

“How long should I stay dedicated? How long 'til opportunity meet preparation?"

'Victory Lap,' even the title. It's the accumulation of trial and error; that's what I represent; trial and error.

You've got to have faith in what you're doing and not take no for an answer.

Another way, I was subconsciously influenced by Nipsey Hussle was the Marathon Reading list which was published shortly after his untimely passing. Last year, I attempted to read as many books as I could from the list below.

I think its amazing that this dude started from the bottom of the socio-economic ladder and worked his way up by acquiring street and book knowledge. His financial IQ was evident in alot of the interviews he did. I remember listening to him speak about the first trip he made to Eritrea. He mentioned that it was that pilgrimage to the motherland which inspired him to seek out different entrepreneurial ventures. He was on his was way up and super motivated to continue building his financial empire. Here's my question for you: do you believe he would've eventually established himself, economically, amoung the mount Rushmore of hip hop royalty (dr dre , Jay z, diddy). $$$$$$ Skys the limit, RIP N.I.P ??
