Also known as burnout culture and grind culture, hustle culture refers to the mentality that one must work all day every day in pursuit of their professional goals. Hustle culture?(aka “Workaholism,” or “Toxic Productivity”) is all about constantly working. Those who hustle attempt to devote as many hours as possible to work.
Hustle culture has a way of tapping into and reinforcing negative feelings, and is often driven by a sense of GUILT. Guilt that you haven't done enough so you don't deserve a break. Guilt that you're falling behind so you have to keep pushing.?Guilt that others rely on you so you MUST.KEEP.GOING!
It seems like a high-energy-motivational movement that comes with expected rewards. For most people, working long hours is typically associated with moving up the corporate ladder faster, making six-figures in the shortest amount of time possible, or earning passive income due to around-the-clock hard work. It is the belief that you can succeed and achieve anything you want in life if you work hard enough. But this can only happen if you devote 1000% of yourself to work, lose sleep, and self-motivate yourself to push through the pains despite all forces that work against you. As Elon Musk says:
“There are way easier places to work, but nobody ever changed the world on 40 hours a week.”
— Elon Musk
The question is why? Are we evaluating our worthiness against the hours we have been at work? Is this the new parameter for our value?
How do you know if you are infected by Hustle Culture?
If the answers to the above questions is YES, then welcome! you are infected with this virus!
