In Hurricane Matthew's Wake, the Red Cross is There
American Red Cross of Georgia Regional Communication Manager Divina Mims Puckett listens to Hurricane Matthew evacuee Charles Kase III at a shelter in Savannah, Ga. As the storm approached the Georgia coast, Kase and other evacuees were transported to a shelter at the Richmond County Academy in Augusta, Ga. He arrived with "about 1,000 others" at 2 a.m. About Red Cross volunteers and staff, Kase said, “They gave us new clothes with the price tags still on, inflatable beds, cots, pillows and blankets. I even got a new tent! Every Red Cross volunteer was nice. I didn’t bring much with me when I came, but I brought back a whole lot."
