(Updated 9 pm ET 10/6) Nearly 300 Haitians were killed when Hurricane Matthew slammed into the Caribbean nation packing 145 MPH winds, and that toll "was likely to rise further as international aid groups and government agencies began reaching the worst-affected areas in the south," The New York Times reports. The category 4 storm is now headed for Florida, whose governor bluntly told the state's 1.5 million residents in Matthew's path to seek shelter. "Evacuate, evacuate, evacuate," Gov. Rick Scott said. "This storm will kill you."

It would be the highest-profile tech IPO in a while; 2016 was moribund until Nutanix popped 130% in its debut last week. Per the Journal, only 19 tech companies have gone public in the US this year. "This company over time will look like an e-commerce company," Chief Executive Officer Doug McMillon told investors of the world's largest retailer. New store openings are slowing, fulfillment warehouses are accelerating and the company is telling investors "that the cost of the long-term plan would weigh on earnings over the next two years," Reuters reports. (Photo by J.D.
