Hurricane Ida devastates New Orleans, Louisiana USA our friend Cheryl Brauner appeals for help

Dear Friends, this article is a real life story of one of our LinkedIn friends Cheryl Brauner who lives in Louisana, USA with her family. Hurricane Ida battered Louisiana on Sunday with an onslaught of harsh winds and floodwaters, leaving nearly a million people without power including much of New Orleans and at least one person dead. The hurricane made landfall as a powerful Category 4 storm, which weakened to a Category 2 storm on Sunday night with maximum winds of 105 miles per hour. It sent hundreds of thousands of people scrambling to evacuate, and left countless others bracing for survival, in an eerie echo of Hurricane Katrina, which made landfall in Louisiana 16 years ago to the day. This is what Cheryl wrote to me today in DM but it was so overwhelming that I decided to publish this as an article since the number of words limit is not applicable to articles like in posts you can only use 1,300 characters. Do read and if you wish please extend help to her

"Kishore thank you very much for your kindness and caring! Recovery will take years! I barely have enough time in day to try and get assistance to fix everything that was damaged ! If I don’t get assistance soon I am afraid the ceilings will fall on top of me! I really don’t want black mold to start because then I would need to begin from beginning again! Just our government did not learn anything from Katrina 16 years ago! They have no idea what they are doing! There are homeless people with no wear to go! Fema was supposedly going to put in hotels ! No the people are in tents or cars on property! Now like myself we won’t leave because of looters!We did everything we were supposed to do, but did have gas for days for portable generator! So means no food in ice chest because no ice so no food and water! No one was delivering food/water by government as did for Katrina!

Since our fence blew down then alligators, and all other animals coming in backyard!My poor husband rigged it up quickly because of alligators! The lady not far-away had her husband eaten by a500 lb 12 ft alligator! Then Wildlife and Fisheries found the alligator with his remains inside! I had noticed a Tremendous amount of snakes water moccasins and copperheads prior to hurricane coming in backyard? Never in 17 years before! Maybe they could feel the low pressure? But know it is ridiculous! I walk Lilly outside on leash just to have control so doesn’t die!

Yesterday I checked didn’t see anything! We turned the corner where I just looked and there were 2 water moccasins fighting over frog! I shot the one with frog ?? and adrenaline on high picked Lilly up & put inside because she instinctively was going to protect me! I weigh maybe 100 lbs before storm, she is a European Boxer and weighs 75lbs! I have no idea how I did it! I hunted for hours, I saw it slither under roots of tree which fell in storm! Now have loose water moccasins and copperhead in yard some where!

But in my entire life never saw a Rattlesnake! All my roses ?? were torn out of my gardens! Each one planted for a reason, like one for my father when he passed away! I found a couple so I tried to replant! While checking I saw something grayish wrapped around the thorn branch! I went to take off & it moved! So I shot it! Then my husband came and chopped in half! I go snap a picture and it still bit my phone!

But when looked up what it was it was rattle snake! They said born in October! Well I look like cowboy walking outside with a gun on me in holster! Is this how I can live! No! But of course what do I do? Thank God my husband is now back at work, but that is not going to pay bills! We didn’t have a month of electricity, internet, phone etc! But they want their money! Mortgage payment due, insurance due with money for food! Ok, now tell me how that works! Ruin my credit because of hurricane! I was not working & still cannot get position to work virtually from home because overqualified! Sure!

So, someone suggested go fund me page! Thank God I spoke with CPA and attorney because the Government takes that as income at higher % ! It was not for me I didn’t realize that our government was that insensitive! But they are in my opinion! So they told me how I can get donations with out getting penalized! So I tell anyone who wants to, to email me at [email protected]! Because that way everyone in world doesn’t know personal information!

No life is so foreign to me, I did not realize you only make it out of a catastrophic situation was to be rich! Well because they have money just to replace everything and fix it themselves! Well I am not! Either is most of Louisiana! We probably have mostly working poor! Or poor! Of course we had homeless! But that is why my expertise was to have equality, our beautiful diversity always included in healthcare!

NEVER did I believe I lived in country no cares! News only stays news a couple of days, then it seems like everyone forgets & moves forward! I am so disappointed in humanity! We are all equal and connected on Earth! So one day soon a catastrophe will occur to you! We have managed to destroy our planet’ s environment! Now of course I never thought about how people don’t care! But I realize people have been burned by criminals asking for money when they were criminals! But everyone is definitely not a criminal! Mentally and physically our area has been changed forever!
