The Hurricane Effect
Subtitle: A Leader’s Impact on Those Closest to Them
“Before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself. When you become a leader, success is all about growing others.” - Jack Welch
Leadership: Beyond Position, Towards Influence
Like many, I once viewed leadership as simply a position of power. However, as I've grown, I now understand leadership isn't just about title—it's about the responsibility to improve the lives of others.
At this stage of my journey, I focus on growing myself so I can better help others grow. In business, my role as a leader breaks down into three main contributions:
Create value for clients, team members, vendors, and the community.
Inspire others to create value for those same groups.
Sell that value back to our stakeholders, creating a cycle of growth.
It’s become clear to me that who I am as a leader impacts those closest to me, and in turn, they influence others. This ripple effect, much like a hurricane, can have far-reaching impacts.
Why the College Campus Is a Strategic Leadership Hub
As a Next Generation Leader working with the Baptist Student Ministry (BSM) at Texas Southern University, I believe the college campus is one of the most strategic places to influence future leaders. The students are like "wet concrete," ready to be shaped by the ideas and values we impart.
By investing in Gen Z, we plant seeds that will shape the future, not only for them but for the world they will lead. Leaders today have the opportunity to influence this next generation with godly, righteous, and positive leadership.

Personal Story: Influence Starts at Home
I’m blessed with one wife and five children, and watching them grow has taught me that leadership starts at home. Children pick up on what we value without us saying a word. They observe our habits, the good and the bad.
My oldest son, for instance, mimics me in so many ways. He's writing a novel, inspired by my book Nothing is a Waste! Leverage the Past, Improve the Future! He carries a pen in his pocket like I do and dreams of becoming a New York Times Bestselling Author.
It’s a reminder that our proximity and example greatly impact those closest to us. We must be intentional about our growth because it influences not just our professional circles but also our families.
