On hurling ourselves--or being hurled!--into the abyss of change

The late American philosopher and “psychedelist” Terence McKenna said something about the onrushing advent of novelty in our times that I wanted to start this post with.

But my search for that quotation produced something more immediately relatable, which, however, I don’t altogether buy into:

"Nature loves courage. You make the commitment and nature will respond to that commitment by removing impossible obstacles. Dream the impossible dream and the world will not grind you under, it will lift you up. This is the trick. This is what all these teachers and philosophers who really counted, who really touched the alchemical gold, this is what they understood. This is the shamanic dance in the waterfall. This is how magic is done. By hurling yourself into the abyss and discovering it's a feather bed.”

Well..."yes" to some of this, "no" to other parts.

Some impossible dreams take immense perseverance and endless endurance to come to fruition. Some never do, no matter how vivid and fervent our dreaming gets. And sometimes it seems like the world just won’t stop grinding us up.

Sometimes the abyss we keep hurling ourselves into is, yes indeed, at last! a feather bed. Other times it’s just…the abyss. Or, a pile of rocks.

And sometimes it seems like the rapid onrush of changes—that hyper-increasing “advent of novelty” Terence found staring at him everywhere he looked closely into human nature and the evolution of reality and time, from the hexagrams of the I Ching to the astoundingly “other” dimensions and beings he hurled himself into on multiple heroic doses of magic mushrooms—sometimes it seems like that accelerating onrush of changes is hurling us into sequences of an endless necessity to keep dreaming, keep daring, keep making the courageous moves, keep leaping off the holy or unholy jumping off places, and so to keep on finessing next emergences that force both immense and tiny changes in us, inside and out.*

Then again, sometimes all of that is so quiet and indistinguishable it’s hard to even persuade ourselves it’s happening at all.

And, sometimes it dawns on us how alone we are in the midst of all this virtual interconnectedness, an aloneness of a whole other order from pandemic isolation, and how much we might just need to synergize our own go-power and confidence, which can dip pretty low, with some kind of other trustable resources to give us, well, the best possible shot at getting lifted up—or landing on a feather bed.

I’ve lived both sides of those coins of possibility. So has my wife and partner, Linda Groves-Bonder, and so have we both together. Over the decades we’ve come to specialize in helping people through these unending sequences of transformational portals.

For the last couple of years I’ve been developing a coaching service. It complements the established, HEART-focused Waking Down? teaching offerings that Linda and I provide through our Human Sun Institute.

Recently Linda has joined me as a co-“HEART Coach” with some clients. It’s juicy work, and we both love it and the folks we’re serving.

All of which has led me to offer this free upcoming presentation and conversation I’d love to have with kindred humans, especially those who are or are becoming high-impact change-makers dedicated to the greater Good of all:

SYNERGIZE YOUR NEXT EMERGENCE: How the 3 catalytic elements of the HEART-Activation Formula can quicken and streamline crucial, next-level transformations in your life and your business, work or service

Here’s the link to register to join me live on Zoom on Tuesday, April 13, at 4 pm Pacific / 7 pm Eastern.

(Note: If you registered for an earlier version of this event that I offered, the "Supercharge Your Next Emergence" webinar on Feb. 19th, you're automatically registered for this one. We'll send you a welcome letter with the Zoom link to participate.)

On that page you’ll find a pretty thorough introduction to the free online event on the 13th, and whether and how it might be of use to you, so I won’t go through that here.

Not to worry, no sales pitches. I do hope that participating might motivate you to explore further with me or with Linda and me both, for which I’ll suggest additional free options.

Thank you for your attention and your interest. If you’re one of those “kindred humans,” it’ll be an honor and a pleasure to have you at the event. I very much hope to see you there. As Terence McKenna said, “Nature loves courage”—especially, for you, yours! I'll do everything I can to make sure you get a lot out of it.

PS: Feel free to share this letter with your friends, thank you!

Linda joins me in sending you Heart-blessings and warm regards,

Saniel Bonder
