Hunting Opportunities and developing yourself
Adeng Andrew Malual Leek
Woman activist, human right advocate and peace maker
I start by quote about hunting opportunities:
"Opportunities don't often come along. So, when they do, you have to grab them.” –Audrey Hepburn
I always insist talking about hunting opportunities, so many people believe that they can not have opportunities or are not lucky to get things done or participate in an event that others do participate on it because they are not lucky or they have been discriminated against but in real sense it is never like we always tend to cover up on our weakness and laziness by staying up making excuses.
Life is yours no body else is responsible to develop it for you unless you show interest and show people you really want to develop yourself not by saying it but by action, i always say show me what you have and then tell me that you couldn't do it, because there are people who are good in talking than implementing.
Opportunities are bigger and wider outside there looking for eligible people like you to apply and grab it, they just want a prove on who you are and what you can deliver to them and does it have impact in people's life.
It takes few steps to get what you are really looking for and i guarantee you when you follow those steps you will be able to get opportunities running behind you not you running behind them and they are as follows:
- Know who you are and what you want:
It is very easy to say i know who i am but it takes ages to discover yourself, by knowing who you are it also requires you to sit down and write about yourself by knowing "Why you exist in this world, what is your purpose? what is your goals and objectives and how you gonna bring them to reality because dreams can be scattered once no goal for it and no strategies to deliver them.
2. Read, Read and Read
Read, if possible the whole paragraph will be filled with the word "Read" we always ignore reading articles, success stories etc.. reading can widen your experience and when you are reading always look for something that can impact your life to impact others. There are a lot of bloggers who are busy sharing their inspirational stories to impact somebody's life use those ones to get more depth about what you want by connecting them to you and how you can contact those people to help you know more about how they have reached that level, you don't need to be them to reach your goal but get to know which obstacles and challenges they faced to be successful today than yesterday, it will help you.
So please consider that as a second way of directing your path for example i always read articles from "She Leads Africa" is a community that helps young African women achieve their professional dreams. With engaging online content and pan-African events and their vision is to become the #1 destination for smart and ambitious young women. believe me this platform changed my life and i always use it as referral to see whatever matches me to develop my career and life.
3. Network
Networking is very essential, we always turned out to be scared and using mostly stereotyping before meeting people but get to know people who are in the same field where you are interested on, in order to help you, you can ask some of them to be your mentor to be in continuous communication with you and to be of help to your journey of achieving your goal. Also be of help to others, networking is not only one sided but both two side if you see that there is somebody who can be of same interest for what you are doing connect them to the mentor you have. because networking is not only getting but it is both getting and giving.
Therefor networking will help you know what is up there in the world and you should be open minded to be able to achieve great network. and always keep your contacts updated wherever you go and always keep in touch with your network not only on time of need but check on them frequently as of greeting in festivals or anniversaries. I have written a long paragraphs about networking because it is very important.
4. Implement the opportunities you receive
As i mention previously that it is not only about getting but also giving, they are a lot of people who are dying to have the opportunities you have, once you got an opportunity from your network, kindly you will need to implement it at your country or regional level about what you had learned like for example; I always look for opportunities from different websites and share it with my country people through my blog "Opportunities for South Sudanese Initiative (OSSI)not because it will benefit me only but it will benefit the wider group that can impact the whole nation and through them the region will be impacted then it will be at the level of the continent.
I know it is fun to travel and attend different trainings and conferences but while you are there, you should focus and learn more to be able to deliver it and impact many life with it, because outside their, there is somebody who wants to learn from you.
I will finish by quote too like the way i started by quote
“No matter how old you are now. You are never too young or too old for success or going after what you want" By Pablo
