Adapting to the Changing Role of Paralegals in Ireland

As more international and UK-based law firms set up offices in Dublin, we are witnessing a paradigm shift in the nature of paralegal work. These firms, armed with a different perspective and fresh operational strategies, are tapping into the vast potential of paralegals, assigning them roles that go beyond traditional administrative duties.

Paralegals are now being entrusted with lower-level fee-earning work, expanding their scope of responsibilities and involvement in legal matters. This includes handling less complex cases, undertaking preliminary case research, drafting preliminary legal documents, and even representing clients in certain circumstances.

Simultaneously, their roles are becoming more client-centric. Instead of working solely behind the scenes, paralegals are increasingly at the forefront of client interactions, helping to manage relationships, and deliver excellent client service. This shift provides paralegals with valuable exposure and experience in dealing with clients directly, offering them broader perspective and further growth opportunities.
