It is 40 years since first publication of Tom Clancy’s “The Hunt for Red October”. It was just sheer thrill when I read the book first time without much insight to Naval and submarine tactics. It took few more years for me to understand the full context when I read the book for the second time after I joined the Navy, with all technicalities involved.
It was saddened for me to see the defection of Captain Marko Ramius and ceding of Typhoon Class ballistic missile submarine with caterpillar drive to his adversaries. Also, Ramius sinking Konovalov and killing his brilliant student Captain Tupolev and his crew.
All the credit goes to Mr Clancy for his brilliant book one can consider as a tactical publication. ??
I wonder weather the film adoption has justified the book where all your vivid imagination confine into 135 minutes. ?????

1 个月Thanks Kassapa for this post, it is a walk down our memory lanes i must confess! Remember how we purchased the book when in India for our Sub Tech as the Indian paperback was cheaper and affordable? It was from the street of Ernakulam, Kochi and the bookstore where i purchased was in the far corner! Anyway, the reading was the imaginative part; visualizing all those technicalities what we have learnt so far to align with what the book says and of course the discussion we had in our class at the ASW School with one of the Indian Instructor is still embedded in my mind. There is nothing like reading a book in its hardcopy version compared to softcopy version, still for me!
