Hung's Tools for Recruiting: Onboarding New Hires

What is this?

The gap between offer accepted and new hire start can be anywhere from 4 weeks to 6 months. It remains a grey area of handover between employer departments - talent acquisition vs HR - often resulting in future employees being stuck in a limbo where no function takes responsibility for their care. More tooling is not always the answer, but better software can definitely help fill this gap - enter: Employee Onboarding software. Please note the focus is on stand alone apps which integrate with ATS's rather than extensions of ATS systems. This conversation started (and still on going) here

How does this work?

Almost all are mobile first / mobile only apps which the new hire is invited to download by the employer admin. The new hire then has the opportunity to explore his/her new company environment via controlled access to status updates and company information - team members, management structure, company comms channels, intranets and other digital spaces. Real time two way messaging is a key component of these services - from the new hire perspective, think focused mobile intranet or private WhatsApp group and you have the idea.

What are the use cases?

Offered candidate gets invitation to download the app. Obvious roadmap for on-boarding apps is to extend horizontally across the hiring pipeline - entering the nascent candidate experience apps space pre offer and the employee engagement / happiness space post start.

Who are the providers?

Enboarder - well known app in this space - perhaps the market leader? Get in touch with VP of Sales Gareth Davies for more info.

Appical? - Dutch based competitor, strong presence in local market, increasing in UK, Germany, US. Strong UX on the web landing page - kudos to the designer there, important part to get right for this type of product.

Talmundo - Spanish based, though internationalised app with a focus on enterprise client base.

Day Zero - Singaporean based startup, early stage but with a live app

Sapling HR - more of a full lifecycle app but on / off boarding employees remain core

Webonboarding - need to take a deeper dive into this product. Looks like it may have an angle on mass employee on-boarding, something which has just occurred to me that may be very different from 1-2-1.
