Hungarian Hospitality Goes Global: Budapest's Starring Role on Chinese TV

China is one of the key markets for Hungarian tourism. In the first 5 months of 2023, 19,000 Chinese visitors spent 70,000 nights in Hungary. These are already very good figures, but what makes us particularly proud is that while in 2019 they stayed only 1.6 nights on average, in 2023 they will stay 3.7 nights. The country specialists of the Hungarian Tourism Agency work tirelessly to develop the tourism sector and to develop new business relationships, as well as to promote creative and constructive connections between countries and cultures.


I have reported on these successes on several occasions, but our work has reached another major milestone.

A great result of the Hungarian Tourism Agency's spring roadshow in China was the new season of the reality show Chinese Restaurant, filmed in Budapest by Hunan TV.

Hunan TV is the second most popular TV channel in China and boasts a number of hugely successful reality shows.

Chinese Restaurant is a reality show with a unique concept: Chinese celebrities with a huge fan base open restaurants abroad and each season they have to show their cooking skills and talents in running a Chinese restaurant in a new country.

Budapest's appearance in the Chinese Restaurant was a very significant step for Hungarian tourism. Through the huge popularity of the series and the celebrity fans, Budapest's reputation has reached millions of people worldwide. This has allowed many potential visitors to get to know our city, see our beautiful buildings, historical sights and experience our hospitality.


Thank you to the Chinese Restaurant and Hunan TV team for making this fantastic opportunity possible for us, which was the result of their joint efforts. We look forward to more opportunities like this in the future, which will further increase the popularity of Budapest and Hungary around the world.
