A Hundred Voices
Michael House Pregnancy and Parenting Support Services
Providing shelter and support to pregnant and parenting women and their children in need
How do you feel when someone chimes in and sings your praises and comes along to help you finish a job you started all alone?
At Michael House we have some amazing voices that sing our praise and tell their world all about who we are. Recently, Linamar invited our Executive Director to come and speak to their morning shift. What a great voice to have to all those amazing people. Thank you, Linamar.
It is not always about the money, nor is it always about those who can introduce us to their network. Sometimes it is just a passionate voice that can make all the difference.
Another donor, a retired physician, goes beyond the call of duty to bless us. She writes a letter each year to the Diocese, and they respond with a gracious and kind gift. She has a voice and gifts that she gives to us every year.
I am looking for 100 voices this year and would love for some of us to raise our hand and ask how this works. Let’s talk it through and see what doors we can open.
I believe this is where we can step aside and allow God to do His thing, even when it comes to participating. For some of us, this is not what God has called us to do and I get that. But for those who resonate with the idea, let’s see what is out there to accomplish.
It comes down to being faithful to who we are and what we are gifted to do. It really isn’t work, is it? It feels like ministry, or a better word is serving. I know the church can miss this expression. They do not work hard in understanding how to talk about money or becoming joyful stewards of what God has blessed us with. Sometimes I feel that I am out there on my own, as one who disciples’ others, and that can be a battle at times.
Of course, it is not a battle, because it does not belong to me, I do not own it. God puts it on our hearts to get involved. He is the one I look to, the one I hope in, to anyone raising their hands to be a voice for Michael House. That is what happened between Christmas and New Year’s. A young lady, with no guidance from her church or from someone from Michael House, called to ask how she could help and how could her church help. After a year of calling and gently pulling, what a signal as to what 2023 could look like. God leading people to Michael House! After meeting with her, over a cup of coffee, I can see how God has already prepared, equipped, and empowered her for this work. It is all about submitting as He calls.
Let’s raise our hands together, hold on, for this could be the beginning where you realise you are on a ride of your life.
