Be a Hummingbird

Be a Hummingbird

Have you ever thought about what it is like to be on the other side of you? What is the experience like to be led by you? It is fast-paced, fun, and energizing...like a hummingbird, or perhaps (and I hope not) the experience is more like a seagull. You come in, squawk, and poop all over new ideas right before you fly off into the distance.?

Be a hummingbird.?? Don't be a seagull.

I truly believe if our leadership were a hummingbird, here are the top three strengths those on the other side of us would experience:

  1. Agility: A hummingbird is known for its agility and skill. As a leader, you could swiftly adapt to changes in the environment and make quick decisions when needed. With this pace, you would also be clear and communicate what you expect. Be consistent in sharing what you are expecting from others.
  2. Resilience: Hummingbirds are incredibly resilient creatures that can withstand harsh weather conditions and long migratory journeys. As a leader, you can bounce back from setbacks and challenges, inspiring your team to do the same. And, when you see this type of strength in action, you would reward it. Be intentional about looking out for what is right in others around you.
  3. Energy: Hummingbirds have an almost boundless energy that allows them to forage for food and fly great distances. As a leader, you would have the power and drive to keep your team motivated and focused on achieving their goals. Even more important is using that energy to correct things when they need to be fixed. Miss-guided energy can wreak havoc on teams. It's always best to be consistent and offer feedback when necessary.

Embodying the strengths of a hummingbird as a leader would lead to a more agile, resilient, and energetic approach to navigating challenges and achieving goals. We can all learn to inspire our teams to soar to new heights by staying nimble, bouncing back from setbacks, and maintaining motivation. So the next time you fly into a meeting. Be a hummingbird.?
