[STORY No. 6] Hummingbird Macarons Hits Home Run
Hundreds of people walk, jog, or drive past a simple storefront along Botetourt Street each day. Aside from painted signs on the window, most probably have not heard of this local business which moved into the Freemason neighborhood last year.
Hummingbird Macarons & Desserts is a boutique bakery and dessert caterer located in Norfolk, VA
The local bakery offers patrons a daily selection of fresh baked goods, and serves as a great resource for weddings, anniversaries, and corporate catering. Last month, the Downtown Norfolk Council held their annual Holiday Hop which made stops at several Freemason Historic District restaurants, including Omar's Carriage House, Voila! and Hummingbird Macarons.
This was my first experience with the bakery's catering and it was quite on point. Around 20 young professionals made their way across the cobblestone streets to 501 Botetourt Street to taste a few custom creations. The results were a hit -- a home run to be precise. The owner / operator Kisha Frazier has made it her mission to "make the world sweeter" as the company's slogan says.
SLOGAN: "Make the World Sweeter"
The front half of the bakery is open concept, allowing passersby to see which dessert specials are offered on any given day. The corner retail space itself may be familiar to some folks -- being the former Shady Grove Marketplace. In the back of house, there is a commercial kitchen which prepares catering orders for service throughout Hampton Roads. On a related subject, if you are looking for a venue to hold your next reception, anniversary, or social event -- here are a few options to consider.
