Humility Rather Than Humiliation!
I was just a little girl when an elder cousin told me to stand under the tree after the rain. Since I was happy to do anything my cousin said to me, I did it. Then he pulled down a branch and the next second I was half wet. My eyes and mouth were wide open in surprise while he was loudly and smugly laughing. At that moment I was confused with a mix of humiliation, even angriness, but it was my personality that chose the joy to prevail over other feelings. So, the epilog was that we were laughing together.
Many years later, especially in my early working years, I was many times rounded by people who wanted to put me under the wet tree with an intention to make me wet. Figuratively. But what they wanted to do was one thing, and how it turned out, was something unexpectedly for them.
Also many times I had a chance to see how someone attempted to humiliate the other one, who was helpless or in an inferior position. So, that made me ask myself what kind of force is in those people who have that impetus and necessity to humiliate others. And what kind of pleasure must it be to make someone act that way towards others?
I know we all have to learn how to pick our battles. Not let to embroil ourselves in petty debates, and most of all, we have to find out how to win when we are involved. But I don't understand people who cause such situations.
Usually, such people have low self-esteem. They need to prove themselves in some way. They don't know to contravene them of being persuaded to do something by the will of others. Just they think that the best way is to put them on the darker side of the world. What they don't know, is that they should rise above it.
Thus, many times I have evoked memories of my cousin from the childhood. He gave me a good lesson that made me think anytime I felt someone want to get me in the similar position. And I successfully avoid some inconveniences because I was thinking about possible repercussions.
It does not regard only to humans. It is also indicative of behavior towards our environment, animals, and plants.
I think it is beautiful to respect and to help people. Also, I think we all should respect our environment. Moreover, we all should understand that we are a source of unlimited power that can work for our welfare, just if we work positively for others. That is if we show more humility, especially towards once who are helpless.
Yes, we are a source of unlimited power if we show humility rather than humiliation.

7 年GREAT read! I think many people point out the faults of others or intimidate/humiliate in order to take away the attention from themselves. Not always the "intention" and could be done subconsciously. Instead we should always work to inspire, teach and educate - at work, at home & everywhere.
