Is Humility the best Leadership Skill?

When I hear this word—it still throws me a little as a thought leader—I do prefer the term humble. ChatGPT gave the following

  • Humility is the noun form and refers to the quality or state of being humble. It’s often used to describe a person's overall character or attitude. For example, "She showed great humility in accepting the award."
  • Being humble is the adjective form, describing the specific attribute of a person. For example, "He is humble despite his success."

Both terms emphasize modesty, a lack of arrogance, and an awareness of one’s limitations.

Business leaders today understand that fostering strength within their teams should indeed be grounded in some form of science around empathy—this is precisely why I decided to start this humble magazine.

The empathy equation necessary for me as a writer and independent researcher requires a balance of faith and humility in the articles I produce.

It’s hard to claim to be an independent expert when I know there are others who are far more skilled and qualified in this domain.

Tomorrow, I humbly have a job interview for the role of safeguarding officer—a passion of mine.

I feel it’s time to return to work, though with humility, I may accept book deals along the next career path and continue to develop my thought leadership.

One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced on LinkedIn is accepting the praise I sometimes receive from others regarding my digital presence.

I don’t care much about how many followers, likes, or comments I get—what matters to me is knowing that I’m trying to help and share some form of research.

I have the humility to know that, as a leader, I want as little fame as possible, and I don’t even need a thank you—pretty much like Batman.

"I never said thank you"—and you never have to.

The Bhagavad Gita says that humility is the primary requirement for accepting knowledge. When you let go of your ego, that is when you are ready to learn.
