The Humans of Your Business - Part 2

Another employee engagement piece is allowing them to do their best work! Do you as a leader recognize or praise your employees for doing good work? I know sometimes we think that we should not have to continually remind them that they are doing a good job to make them perform at their best.

We need to recognize that if employees are not adequately recognized they are twice as likely to leave and find a company that will recognize them….so let’s talk about how to recognize them! First recognition should come from both management and co-workers. Nothing makes me happier than to hear from another employee about something they were helped with!

I think another thing you need to be aware of as a leader is how do employees like to receive praise. We always have team goals, and we make sure to praise the entire team when we meet those goals on our weekly staff meeting. But for individual employee goals, some don’t like to be in the spotlight and don’t want you to praise them in front of others and would prefer it to be on a one-on-one basis. So, know your employee and know how they would prefer to be recognized!

One last thing to consider with employee recognition is to make sure you talk about the situation, how they responded and what impact that it had so that they understand why they are being recognized and maybe they will repeat it!
