Interview with Mansi Mishra

1.?????Was medical writing your natural calling? Or did something/someone inspire you into this field?

I won’t say it came to me naturally. I aspired to be a doctor but ended up being a biotech engineer. Not much enthusiasm into research led me into healthcare industry. Being an avid fiction reader, I had a flare for creative writing from the start. I was a life science trainee in my first company and noticed medical writers developing medical content and it immediately spurred my curiosity of uniting my degree with my hobby of interest. Unfortunately, things did not work out as planned. But I made continuous efforts to enter the stream and finally paved my way into consumer health and medico-marketing. Ten years down the line, I believe, it was indeed my calling!

2.?????How different is writing for medico-marketing services from publications?

Medical writing requires deep understanding of scientific and precise interpretation of data to comply with high standards of medical writing and ethics. Medico-marking is indeed a fundamental part of medical writing and requires varying levels of creativity to develop information for a large spectrum of audiences including healthcare professionals, pharma industry, patients, caregivers, etc. As a medico-marketing writer, our responsibility is to provide accurate information of interest to the targeted audience while doing right market positioning for the brands to launch or retain their products and strengthening their brand image. Thus, good scientific knowledge, effective writing skills, and creative eye to design are most integral.

4.?????Remote working and medical writing: Is it is good combination?

Of course, it is a blessing. I was always an office person until COVID came along. With COVID-19, lockdowns, and social distancing, remote working has been a bliss. Remote working in medical writing area is not a new concept though. It may have its own challenges like more text-based communications and virtual meets rather than face-to-face conversations, but regular team meetings, active participation, and striking a right balance between work and life have helped us overcome these. With reliable resources for content and knowledge-sharing platforms just a few clicks away, it is like your physical presence or limitations is not controlling your professional growth anymore.?

Professional life gives us little personal joys in our day-to-day life. The co-workers feel like an extended family only. I am a new mother and recently resumed office after a maternity break. The constant support and understanding from my colleagues is so comforting and is helping me create balance between my work and personal life and enjoy motherhood while bouncing back to professional duties.?

6.?????Your colleagues say that you are a great team person! What’s your secret recipe?

For a true team player, I believe, the most important skills are open-mindedness, listening and understanding, flexibility, time management, positive and learning attitude, focusing on team’s goals and achievements and being appreciative of other people.

7.?????What are your views on the change brought by social media in our professional lives?

Social media has been the powerhouse for all the virtual communication in the COVID times and beyond. It has not only strengthened the interaction but also provided all of us with a platform for knowledge sharing with new and engaging tools and made insightful information available for the readers/viewers on-the-go.?
